HANNAH'S MAIN AIMSHannah is well aware that we are facing a climate disaster, both as a country and a planet, and it is vital that changes be implemented immediately to counteract the situation. Hannah will take action to promote renewable and sustainable energy substitutes for fossil fuels, along with increased education on sustainability. Hannah also aims to secure funding for local public transport, particularly Park and Ride schemes, to increase their frequency and reliability. This will provide additional transport for those with limited options, and Hannah will campaign to increase her constituent's use of public transport, as it is an effective and easy way in which individuals can decrease their carbon footprint.
On a local level, Hannah supports the bid to make the remaining section of the A5, between Shrewsbury and Chirk, into a dual carrigeway. This work would have a direct positive impact on the lives of many of her constituents, as it would increase the safety and traffic flow on this commonly used road. Hannah will also vote to increase school funding across the county, to support equal opportunities for all children in her constituency. Hannah believes strongly in the value of increased variety in education. One of the benefits of apprenticeships and skill-based courses is that these forms of education provide new opportunities and career options for young people that don't suit traditional "academia", in addition to providing training for roles which are of vital importance to all those living in the local area. Hannah also seeks to reduce business rates - high street businesses represent 5% of the turnover, yet pay nearly 25% of business rates. Many out of town and internet businesses pay little to nothing. This discrepancy, coupled with the continually increasing parking charges, is killing our town centre. Following discussions with constituents, it has become clear to Hannah that the recent developments in the 5G network are of concern. As with any new technology there are potential risks, and Hannah believes that coverage of the network must be postponed until sufficient research into the impacts can be carried out. There is evidence to suggest that the specific frequency of 5G waves may have unforeseen consequences, both to our health and to the environment. Hannah wants the best Brexit deal for the country. Although she personally believes that this would be to revoke Article 50 and remain in the European Union, the 2016 referendum made it clear that this view was not shared by the majority of her potential constituents. However, Hannah believes that it is of paramount importance that we do not 'crash out' of the EU with no deal. As such, should the Brexit negotiations continue, Hannah will vote for the best deal available. Once a final deal has been reached, Hannah believes it should be put to a second referendum, so the people themselves can decide between the given deal, an alternative deal, or revoking Article 50. Hannah believes strongly in the value the NHS provides to all members of her constituency, and in the crucial work done by the A&E departments at both the Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal hospitals. As such she will advocate for increased NHS funding, particularly in areas affecting mental health. Hannah believes that education is a key area to target on this front, as 'helping people to help themselves' by recognising issues as they arise will ultimately improve the lives of her constituents, and lead to more effective use of NHS resources. Another way in which Hannah seeks to directly impact the lives of her constituents is in voting to minimise 0-hour contracts, in favour of more secure job opportunities for those who need it most. As Shrewsbury and Atcham is a largely farming-based community, Hannah feels it is incredibly important to protect farmers wages, and to promote locally sourced produce wherever possible. Additionally, Hannah will support increases in free childcare options for young children, to give parents a genuine choice on when and whether to return to work. In order to support her constituents of all ages, Hannah will vote to increase funding for social care, with a particular focus on nursing care for the elderly. Above all, if elected, Hannah seeks to represent the views of her constituents in the most effective way possible. She believes that by running as an independent candidate, she can vote directly in line with her constituents' beliefs, without having to negotiate party policies. Hannah will campaign to increase voter turnout in general, with a particular focus on young voters and first time voters, as she believes this election may prove to be the most influential in determining the future of our country for quite some time.
